How to maintain your summer glow this winter

  • August 10, 2021

Whether you’re looking to feel great on the inside or shine like your best self on the outside, there are plenty of ways to keep the summer vibes sparkling all year round.

  • Stay hydrated

When it’s colder and windier in winter, it’s very easy for our skin to dry out – not to mention what all that added hot air from our heaters can add to the mix. That’s why it’s particularly important to make sure we’re hydrating with at least two litres of water each day. If you’re not sure you can reach the two-litre mark, why not consider adding foods to your diet that have a naturally high-water content? This might include anything from cucumbers to lettuce, zucchini, watermelon or strawberries.

  • Protect the skin you’re in

Another thing to consider in the season-long fight against dry skin is how important it is to regularly moisturise your face and body. A rich moisturising cream during the day and a nourishing oil throughout the night should do the trick! When you’re out and about during the day – don’t forget to add sunscreen to the mix. It might be cold and cloudy out, but we always need to make the effort to protect ourselves from the harsh Australian sun.

  • You are what you eat

Remember how we tend to eat a bit lighter in summer? Lots of salads, lean meats, and fruit on the go? Well, this approach often falls by the wayside in winter because the plummeting temperatures see us craving more comfort foods. There’s no shame in that game – we all do it, but sometimes it can leave us not feeling our best. To give your body an added boost or glow, try to incorporate foods into your regular routine that support energy production, renewal and rejuvenation. This doesn’t mean you have to cut out all the good stuff, but rather ease up on refined sugars and simple carbs, and instead try more veggies, fruits (berries), good fats and high-quality proteins. Don’t forget – Vitamin A and Vitamin C have long been used to help nourish our skin, as well as Omega 3, copper and zinc.

  • Stay active

Did you know that regular movement can help keep our skin and bodies energised, which contributes to our glowy skin goodness? It all comes down to activity, increased circulation and lymphatic drainage. Whether it’s dancing, walking, running or simply chasing the kids around the house all day – any chance to move your body is also an opportunity to boost your general health and wellbeing.

  • Get a massage

Did you know a deep tissue massage isn’t just relaxing – it’s actually good for you, too? Besides the mental health benefits and the much-needed tension release, deep tissue massaging techniques can help get your blood circulating, which contributes to us feeling fine – inside and out!
