How to eat more fruit and veggies each day

  • August 30, 2022

Sure, we know we need to get our daily serve of the good stuff but sometimes it can be really hard to find the time (or enthusiasm) to incorporate fruits and vegetables into our diet. There’s a lot of pressure to eat well, exercise right, be the perfect friend, partner or parent – and when push comes to shove, our diet is often the first thing to fall by the wayside. To help you enjoy more of Mother Nature’s best each and every day, here are a few ways to make fruit and veggies a consistent staple in your diet.

  • Kickstart each morning

There’s plenty of advice out there about what’s best for us when it comes to food but there’s no denying a diet high in fruits and veggies will always be a winner. With this in mind, it makes sense to start nourishing your body the second you wake up – with a healthy breakfast. You may want to add fruit to your cereal or porridge (think bananas, blueberries, raspberries or sultanas) or even top your toast with some of the good stuff if you’re looking for more of a savoury option. This might include banana on top of your peanut butter toast, or a serving of sourdough topped with avocado and a side of mushroom or grilled tomato. Variety is indeed the spice of life, so try to keep it interesting and mix it up every second day or so to avoid dreaded food boredom.

  • Get sneaky

Has the time come to hide those fruit and veggies in your favourite foods? If you can get away with it without noticing too much of a difference in taste and texture, why not? It can be a simple yet super effective way to up your intake while still enjoying your fave foods. Take dinner for example – why not grate some carrot into your beloved spag bol recipe? Or add some spinach or nori sheets to your next omelette? Up your nacho game with cauliflower nachos instead of the corn chips! There are so many ways we can incorporate a variety of veggies into our lunches and dinners without making massive changes, and that, dear friends, is exciting.

  • Bring a little nudie into your life

Our favourite thing about our nudie blends is that they’re a natural and nutritious way to introduce more fruit and veggies into your diet. In Australia, it’s recommended that as adults, we each enjoy two serves of fruit and five serves of veggies per day. Our juice is here to help get you there. It’s made with 100% real fruit and vegetables, and is packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. It features no added sugar, artificial colours, preservatives or flavours – meaning it’s a small glass can help you reach your recommended daily intake of fruit and veggies. Best of all, we don’t believe in tampering with our juice. We don’t use concentrate and never reconstitute our good stuff!

  • Make fruit fun again

Just because you’re craving a chocolate cake or a big tray of brownies, doesn’t mean you can’t add a little fruity or veggie goodness to your recipe. While we’re not encouraging a daily diet of cakes and baked goods, there are plenty of ways to add healthier elements to your ‘treat’ food. This might include making your brownies with sweet potato, adding orange juice to your next cake, filling your banana bread with an extra banana and blueberries or replacing that after-dinner ice cream with a fruit salad and yogurt instead. Even the smallest amends can make a decent difference.

  • Upgrade your snack game

There’s no denying we all snack – sometimes multiple times a day. So why not try making a commitment to yourself that at the very least, one snack per day will be either fruit or veggie-based? This way, you’re not limiting your snacks to something you’re not overly excited about but you’re still getting one hit of the good stuff guaranteed each and every day. This might mean swapping out that piece of chocolate for a handful of strawberries or cut up pieces of watermelon or switching that 3pm bag of chips with some carrot sticks and hummus. Small and consistent changes will help make all the difference while training your brain to get excited about all kinds of snack time options.
