6 ways to reconnect with Mother Nature

  • October 24, 2022

With so much time being spent behind the screen or on the couch, the need and desire to get outside and reconnect with what truly matters has never been stronger. Thankfully, you don’t have to be a meditation guru or green thumb to enjoy the great outdoors and appreciate Mother Nature. Here are some simple yet effective ways to emerge from hibernation and enjoy the natural wonders surrounding us.

  • 1. Take a dip

When we think of Mother Nature we often go straight to the earth – hillsides, mountains, trails and treks. But the water is also an amazing way to reconnect with the world around us. From the salty goodness of the beach to the sensation of sand between our toes, taking a dip will leave you feeling refreshed, renewed and closer to the great outdoors. If you’re not a fan of swimming or it’s a tad too cold right now, try to head to the beach for a sunrise or sunset moment. Watching the sky change colour and open / close the chapter to the day is a truly powerful experience.

  • 2. Start star spotting

When was the last time you looked up at the night sky and gazed upon the stars above? If you’re a city dweller, it can be hard to spot our night time twinklers but head out beyond the lights of the city and the night sky becomes a whole new world of entertainment. Lightyears away yet right in front of us – taking in the vast openness and beauty of the sky, moon and stars will leave you feeling magical – like anything could be possible.

  • 3. Get dirty and start planting

Is there any better way to reconnect with Mother Nature than contributing to keeping her healthy and beautiful? Whether it’s a tree, a flower, herbs or even a tasty veggie garden – consider planting something you can help grow and nourish over time. We truly believe that what you give out, comes back to you – and this is one way to earn some good karma with the great outdoors.

  • 4. Take care of your surroundings

It might not be the most glamorous way to spend a morning or afternoon but committing a few hours to cleaning up any discarded rubbish in your area or suburb is one way you can contribute to keeping Mother Nature beautiful while hopefully encouraging others to do the same. Pop on a pair of gloves, grab a rubbish bag and start walkin’. Not only is this great exercise, it sets a wonderful example for family and fellow community members alike.

  • 5. Switch off and unplug

It sounds so simple but the basic act of turning off the laptop, putting the phone on silent and leaving the house for an hour each day is one way you can better connect with the elements. When was the last time you heard the birds chirp or managed to feel the sun on your face? By heading outside and enjoying the fresh air, you’ll refresh your mind, engage your body and remember the subtle beauty of life beyond your own four walls. Try to do this consistently once a day – what do you notice when you’re out? Are they the same things each day? Take notes if you like. This act of mindfulness will help you appreciate your time outside that much more.

  • 6. Up your fresh fruit and veggie intake

OK, it might seem like we’re trying to entice you to eat more of the good stuff, but that’s because we are. Not only are fresh fruits and vegetables literal bounties from the earth itself, but they’re the most natural way to nourish and support your body. Opt for options that are in season as these will be bursting with rich flavour and goodness.
