There’s more to these vegetables than just great taste!

We all know vegetables are good for us, but it turns out they’re pretty entertaining, too. Here are some of the coolest veg-e-licious facts on this side of the vegetable patch.

  • 1. They may be crunchy, but the humble carrot is actually made up of 85-90% water!

  • 2. The expression “cool as a cucumber” comes from the cucumber’s amazing ability to cool down the body and add hydration. That’s fascinating AND weird all at the same time!

  • 3. Celery seeds are super versatile and are often used as a spice in kitchens all over the world.

  • 4. The plant part of carrots (the green bits we see above ground) can grow up to one metre high! 

  • 5. Cucumbers are one of the only veggies you can’t cook, and always eat raw. 

  • 6. Centuries ago, beetroot juice was used as natural hair dye. Probably still works today, tbh, but we’ll stick to the hairdresser, thank you very much! 

  • 7. Cucumbers don’t just taste great, they also double as homemade beauty products! These lean, green, beautifying machines can prevent the breakdown of elastin in the skin, which can help tighten skin, support cell wall renewal, and build collagen.

  • 21. Once upon a time, celery was considered a medicinal herb rather than a vegetable.

  • 22. When harvested properly, the whole beetroot plant is actually entirely edible. Yep, that includes the leaves!
