Plums are a very good source of Vitamin C as well as being a good source Vitamins A and B2. Additionally, they assist the body in the absorption of iron. Dried plums (prunes!) are 16% phosphorus and their dietary fibre has led to their most infamous quality - keeping us regular!

If you could count the blossoms on a plum tree you would find that 50% developed into plums in a good year. But if the weather is too dry they shrivel and die, and if it’s too wet they grow large but mouldy. Who would have thought the humble plum was so fickle?!

In the USA marketers, aware of the prune’s negative connotations with being a laxative, now market them as ‘dried plums’!
